GRIND TO BE ELITE
THE BIG THREE GENRES
PROCESS REPORT
In project three my campaign theme was “Grind to be Elite.” The three genres that I composed is a Twitter, a motivational video, and an audio speech. The websites used to promote the genres I composed are YouTube, SoundCloud and Twitter. The Twitter was used to tweet inspirational quotes from famous icons and promote the brand. I used the audio speech to put a voice behind the tweets that were being tweeted and the motivational video to give the audience a visual.
The rhetorical appeals used in my Twitter genre are ethos, pathos and logos. I was aiming to appeal to athlete’s emotions by basically tweeting tweets that would inspire any athlete or anyone who wondered on the page to not give up just because they feel like they are not good enough or what they are doing is too difficult to keep pushing and never give up. On all quotes that I used during tweets, I cited the person who created it or is most famous for saying it in order to build my ethos. That way it's not just like a random person is tweeting quotes that are not even theirs. I also used the Twitter for promotion of the audio speech I composed on SoundCloud and the YouTube video. The audience for my Twitter genre are mainly rising athletes and coaches around the world but it was not just limited to them. Everyday people that are close to giving up could also use this Twitter for motivation.
The purpose of the audio speech was to give the audience, athletes, coaches and struggling everyday people a voice behind the tweets on the Twitter page. For the audio speech I wrote an original speech and I talked based on experience. While recording the speech I made sure that I used an emotional tone so it was not like I was just reading off a sheet of paper. My reasoning behind this was to build credibility by showing things from my own experience. The rhetorical appeals used in this genre is ethos and pathos.
The rhetorical appeals used in my motivation video genre is ethos, pathos and logos. The purpose of this genre was to show the audience what grinding looks like, to show them that grinding is not easy and that it takes your all. In the video I incorporated audio clips of other motivational speakers along with my audio speech to give more credibility and show that I am not the only one saying these things, but other people are also saying the same thing about grinding. In the video I also made sure that besides showing how grinding looks to show that it pays off in the end that is why I incorporated footage of Florida State University's rising receiver Nyqwan Murray at practice and in game footage. I also included a clip of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown so it is not like grinding just takes you to college but to show it also takes you to the professional level.
In order to compose the three genres in project 3 I had to decide what information I wanted to use from project 2 without feeling like I was doing the same exact project over again. Once I decided that I was going to key in on the fact athletes are made and not born that is how I came up with the whole “Grind to be Elite” campaign. In order to be made you have to put in the work necessary, so grind. After I came up with the campaign theme, making the Twitter was my next struggle because I knew this was going to be my main source of promoting but I wanted to make the Twitter interesting and I honestly did not know who I wanted to follow. Once I convinced myself that I could not just pick and choose who I wanted to follow my project got so much simpler. I just began following anyone who had something to do with sports. If you played \any type of sport or coach any type of sport, I followed your account. I received a few follow backs but a lot of the people did not follow back they just retweeted one or two tweets, if that.
The audio speech was a little simpler being that I had a good idea about how I wanted to approach it. I knew from the beginning that I did not want to make the speech too long because I know me as a person do not necessarily want to sit there and listen to a long speech no matter what the topic is. Therefore, I just kept it short and simple and got straight to the point.
Originally for the motivational video I was going to record clips of me and my friends working out and doing sports related drills then I became ill for basically a week, I had no energy to go out and record a make original footage during this time. By the time I was well enough to get back to the project it was too late to go out and record I had to draw up a whole new game plan. I remembered that I was connected to a good amount of College and High School athletes from my city and other cities so I just began reaching out to them, asking if they had any footage of them working out or doing drills in practice. Everyone that I reached out to agreed to sending me the film but in the end most of them took too long or what they sent was too shaky for the video. In the end I had to turn to YouTube and pull clips from other people’s videos and piece it all together. Also for the video I did not only want my audio in the background. I wanted to give the audience something extra to listen to since I already was promoting the speech on twitter. On top of that I needed to add a more credible source to grab the audience’s attention. In order to do this, I went through YouTube and listened to a ton of motivational speakers until I found the perfect ones. Then I just placed short clips of their speech at the beginning middle and end of my speech so that it flowed and make sense but did not fully takeover my speech.
Ultimately the project was effective, the motivational video was the biggest hit out of all the three genres. I did majority of my promotion on my personal Twitter account by constantly posting a link to the motivational video and showing friends around campus. I got a good amount of retweets on the video and a few people quoted the video or replied saying how it was actually motivating. The composing process for this project was different than with a research essay being that I got to be more creative. I felt way more restricted when composing the research essay than I did with composing the process for this project. The composing of this was less difficult than the composing of project 2 because with project 2 it was hard to actually research the topic “Are elite athletes born or made.” Not many people had previously did anything on this topic therefore, I had to come up with an original approach to researching I could not just go read about the topic and go from that. Also with composing the process for this project I had all my information already so I basically just had to piece things together the way I wanted.
